Historique :	Présenté au Salon de 1872 (n°740), attribué en 1874 à l'église de Saint-Rémy-la-Varenne et expédié par erreur à Saint-Rémy-en-Mauges dont le curé est autorisé à le conserver. Inventaire FNAC PFH3529. Le tableau était roulé dans le grenier du presbytère jusqu'en 1995. Il a été alors transporté dans celui des salles paroissiales où il a été retrouvé avec son rouleau lors d'un déménagement en 2019.

Précision_sur la representation :	Illustration de Matthieu 15, 21-28, Jésus, en vêtement rose et toge bleue se tient debout et étend les bras. Son visage est vu de profil. Derrière lui quatre de ses disciples assistent à la scène. Devant lui, la Cananéenne, en robe jaune, un genou à terre, tient dans ses bras sa fille en robe blanche dont le corps semble rigide et repousser sa mère. Ce groupe forme un triangle au sommet duquel le visage de la mère est tendu, en supplication, vers Jésus. Derrière elle se tiennent un vieil homme debout et une femme agenouillée.
